Gregory's Gourmet Desserts
Twenty years of homestyle desserts that actually live up to the hype
Downtown, Oakland
About This Place
Gregory's is the kind of place that becomes part of your Oakland story. They've been doing this for over two decades, and the fact that people make it a point to return says everything. It's small, it's unpretentious, and the desserts taste like someone who actually cares made them. You'll find blackberry cobbler, cheesecake in multiple iterations, apple streusel, cookies and cream, peach cobbler. Everything comes across as generous and thoughtful rather than fussy.
The range here is genuinely impressive. Beyond the expected desserts, there's sweet potato pie (with and without pecans), key lime pie, scones, and quiche. That's not a dessert place dabbling in savory bites; that's someone with serious baking skills across multiple categories. The cobbler gets called otherworldly by people who aren't prone to exaggeration. The cheesecakes arrive with actual fruit, not just concept.
It's a hole-in-the-wall setup where they control the flow of customers inside, which somehow makes the whole experience feel more special rather than less. You're not waiting in line at some industrial operation. You're in a small spot where the baker knows what they're doing and isn't trying to be anyone but themselves. That restraint, that refusal to overextend or overcomplicate things, is exactly what makes it work.
